Belo Monte dam – Survival Worldwide


The Brazilian authorities is establishing the Belo Monte mega-dam on the Xingu River within the Amazon.

The dam, if accomplished, would be the third largest on the planet and it’ll flood a big space of land, dry up sure components of the Xingu river, trigger enormous devastation to the rainforest and cut back fish shares upon which Indians within the space, together with Kayapó, Arara, Juruna, Araweté, Xikrin, Asurini and Parakanã Indians, rely for his or her survival.

FUNAI has said that there could also be some uncontacted Indians close to the location of the dam. These uncontacted Indians are most in danger as they’ve little or no resistance to exterior illnesses, which might be deadly for them.

Kayapó Indians and different tribes of the world have been protesting in opposition to the dam because it was initially proposed within the Nineteen Eighties.
